Beach Vacation: Outfit inspiration And Travel Tips

Ready For A Beach Vacation

I am finally back after taking an unexpected break, I guess you could call it a semester 😉 But I’m officially back and I have a lot of ideas for my absolute favorite season, fall. But for now, I am focusing on summer outfits, not because it’s still summer (it’s certainly not warm outside any longer) but because I have a beach vacation coming up. We are going to Greece, Corfu in a couple of weeks and so I still need to keep my mind set on summer. I am struggling though because I really feel like buying fun printed tights, long-sleeved tops, and new boots.

So, even though it is the last month of summer you might just have a beach vacation planned during the coming cold months. If you do I’m going to give you some tips based on my own experience. More importantly, I’ve got tons of outfit inspiration for you which I have been working on for a long time. I started planning this post before my break and now I have finally finished it.

Tips For The Beach Vacation

Now, I may not travel that much, but I’m still going to share some things. If you have any other tips, feel free to share them. Okay here it goes:

Travel tips:

  • First of all, assuming that you are flying to your destination, wear enough clothes on the plane. Make sure bring socks, a sweater, and even a blanket if you need it because it is always so freaking cold on planes. Maybe that’s just me?
  • I absolutely despise the seats on planes because they’re so uncomfortable, I don’t know what to do with myself. I guess this isn’t really a tip, haha, but if you find that it helps, you could bring a neck pillow.
  • Bring headphones that muffle out the constant noise of the plane and the people. Make sure you have music or podcasts available offline.
  • Bring snacks because the food on planes is rarely fresh,  is often unhealthy, expensive and doesn’t taste very good.
  • Finally, make sure you have some napkins and possibly a plastic bag.

In conclusion, I hate flying. Now let’s move on to some more fun things.

Beach tips:

  • Always bring a big beach bag (a canvas bag that doesn’t take up to much space in your suitcase is perfect) for towels, books, water, sunscreen and whatever you like to bring to the beach. This might seem obvious, but I thought I’d write it down anyways.
  • Sunscreen is important, always and if you are walking to the beach you should apply it before you head off. You can easily get burned on the way if you don’t, speaking from personal experience…
  • Water is also so important and it’s so easy to forget to drink. Always having a water bottle in your bag makes it easier to remember.
  •  A hat is so good to have, especially if you, like me, burn your scalp like crazy on every beach vacation. It’s so easy to forget your scalp for obvious reasons and a hat is the perfect solution.
  • Comfortable shoes, this is always a problem of mine because almost all the sandals that I buy give me blisters somewhere if not everywhere. If they’re not uncomfortable, they are slippery underneath which is a problem as I would rather not crack my head open on the sidewalk… So.. I always have problems with shoes. For the blisters, I always bring lots of band-aids with me and I always use them… For the slippery sandals, I either google to find a solution, don’t wear those shoes or wear them and hope for the best.
  • Bring a good book, a notebook, music or something else that’s fun to do while at the beach. Although it’s relaxing I often get bored while on the beach so I always need some good distractions.

Finally, here are some of the things that I love to do when I’m on a vacation:

  • Going to a café, sitting in the shade with a cup of cappuccino or a fruit drink and just being in the moment. Fun conversation with loads of laughter is, of course, a nice bonus.
  • Walking on the beach in the evening while looking out at the neverending ocean.
  • Lying in the shade on the beach with a cold beer and some salty chips to snack on.
  • A delicious dinner at a nice restaurant preferably with some live music.
  • Walking around in different shops and seeing new things.

Beach Vacation Outfits

For me, a big part of vacation is having fun with your outfits and putting them together based on where you are going. The outfits I put together for this post are very mixed and hopefully, you’ll find something that inspires you.

On the beach

A simple bikini in black worn underneath a linen tunic is the perfect beach outfit. I paired mine with some gold jewelry and a gold nail polish. I have really been feeling linen this summer and I think it’s perfect for Greece. The tunic I’m wearing was actually a scarf from the beginning. I have had it for years but I’ve never worn it so I decided to turn it into something else in hopes that I might someday. The makeup I decided to pair this outfit with consists of lots of bronzer, gold shimmer and lipgloss.

A restaurant on the beach

My simple black bikini looks really good underneath my cream mesh t-shirt and by pairing it with my favorite linen piece it becomes more evening appropriate. This old skirt is one part of a two-piece set I got after grandmother years ago. I have since been in love with it and I keep wondering why she didn’t want to keep it. This set is also one of the reasons why I love two-piece sets.

I paired this look with a pair of gold sandals, gold jewelry and the same makeup as in the first look.

Shopping with a purpose

This outfit screams shopping to me and I honestly don’t know why. Maybe it’s the printed headscarf or the fashionable cage bag? The bright colors? Or maybe it’s the green lip cream from NYX? Either way, I love this outfit. I love how the color of the top looks with my white denim skirt and how it matches the headscarf so well. I love to match things together, I see it as a sport and so, this outfit is quite satisfying to look at.

Birthday celebration on vacation

The reason we are actually going to Greece is that my dad is turning 50 (because my mom turns 50 next year we will celebrate both birthdays in New York in the spring, so you can expect some posts related to that 😉 ). This outfit is what I plan to wear when we go out to celebrate. I love this yellow shade right now, I even bought yarn in the color and then made the earrings in the photos. Notice again how I love to match things.

At a café, after the beach

After the beach, I love to go back to the hotel room, take a shower and then head out in the search for a café. This is the type of outfit I could wear, comfortable and relaxed. A pair of shorts might be more suitable if culottes are too warm. I love these culottes though because they are so comfortable. I paired them with a pair of woven sandals (the same model as the gold ones in the second look), a rope belt, a lace tube top and some brass jewelry (see how I made them here).

A night out, from restaurant to café to bar

Although this outfit might look better in a place such as Abu Dhabi, I couldn’t resist using a turban for at least one of my outfits. This outfit might actually be my favorite because of all the different elements. Polka dots (A trend that continues this fall) I find always look classic and elegant, a white woven top with a shiny finish (one of my best second-hand purchases), gold jewelry and of course, the turban. I couldn’t decide what shoes to pair this look with, but I would go for heeled sandals.

Lounging by the pool

(Preferably one where no kids are allowed to be able to fully relax)

The bikini in this look is probably my favorite one out of all I have ever owned which is a bummer cause the top broke when I took it off. But I’m determined to fix it… It’s from River Island if you were wondering and I should mention that my blue one from the same place has questionable seams as well… So if you do buy bikinis from them keep that in mind. Aside from that I really do love this bikini.

I wore a white sleeveless button up shirt over to work as a cover-up, but a white tunic or kaftan might be more practical. To match the metallic threads in the bikini I wore a pair of earrings in rose gold. Finally, I added a red lipstick, nail polish and sunglasses which I think made the whole look even better.

Discovering new places

A part of the vacation should be to discover new places, to walk through the town you’re visiting and just take it all in. This outfit is perfect for that and if there is shopping involved it works for that too 😉 .

A white blouse paired with denim is a classic look and you can easily put your own spin on it. I love my ruffle off the shoulder blouse and I will never let it go even if it goes out of style. I’ll just let it hang and wait for it to become trendy again. Once again I am pairing a look with red details by wearing a pair of red fan earrings (which I also made), a red pearl bracelet, a trendy mesh bag and of course, red lips. Perfect for Greece are the sandals I decided to wear with this outfit.
