7 Layered outfits for the winter season

7 Layered outfits for the winter season

All of my life I have struggled to keep warm during the winter because I am someone who is cold most of the time. I remember, when I was little, my mom would make me wear tights underneath my jeans and snow pants over them when I went outside. Although that annoyed me back then, I know now that’s the reason I didn’t freeze to death. And so, layered outfits has always been something I’ve needed in my life. But it was when I got older that I realized layered outfits could look good too. . . .  read more

Beach Vacation: Outfit inspiration And Travel Tips

I am finally back after taking an unexpected break, I guess you could call it a semester 😉 But I'm officially back and I have a lot of ideas for my absolute favorite season, fall. But for now, I am focusing on summer outfits, not because it's still summer (it's certainly not warm outside any longer) but because I have a beach vacation coming up. . . .  read more

DIY One Shoulder: Transform An Old Top

DIY One Shoulder: Transform An Old Top

The One Shoulder Top

I remember years ago when the one shoulder top was trending and I wanted one so badly! If I remember correctly, my mom wouldn’t let me have one. But because of how inventive I am, I simply cut one of my old tops, hoping that would be good enough. It wasn’t, of course, because it was too loose around the chest area.. Other than that, it wasn’t similar at all to the top I actually wanted. I don’t remember its exact appearance, but I do know that it was red and white. With that said, the top above seems like the perfect alternative to satisfy my nine(ish) year old self, as well as my current needs for a new one shoulder top. . . .  read more

3 Ways To Wear The Wrap Dress

3 Ways To Wear The Wrap Dress

One of the most trending pieces right now is the classic; wrap dress. Other then it’s flattering fit the wrap dress also happens to be versatile. After buying my black floral wrap dress from Shein last year (see it here) I was hooked on this amazing silhouette. I couldn’t believe I didn’t own one already. With that said, I recently ordered a new wrap dress from Stradivarius (I had originally intended to order it from Asos, but they were out of stock at the time).

My New Wrap Dress

My new wrap dress is currently my favorite piece for several reasons.

  • First of all, stripes, I love stripes. I constantly wear stripes and I do prefer them in either blue and white, red and white and black and white. Naturally the combo blue, white and red makes sense for me to add to my closet. Another thing about stripes is the fact that they’re vertical which happens to be a huge trend this season.
  • As you can see, the stripes differ slightly on each side. This you may already know that I love, because anything asymmetrical is very much me.
  • The details, from the wrap to the ribbons to the high low hemline and the buttons on the cuffs. This dress has so much going on and that’s definitely one of my favorite things about it. If you’d like you can just throw it on and pair it with some classic red pumps or even some white sneakers. So easy to wear and it’s impossible for it to look boring.

If you’re looking for some options, I will list some links at the end of the post 😉

The Wrap Dress: As It Is

The first one is pretty obvious; wearing it like it’s meant to be worn. Like I mentioned, a wrap dress is so beautiful on its own and you don’t need to add much at all to it. I added my Bjorg necklace and a pair of mother of pearl studs from Etsy (Druzyworld.) I paired the dress with my favorite black booties from Office and that was it. For the hair I simply made a messy bun.

The Wrap Dress: As A Top

If you live in a colder climate you can add tights to go with the dress, or you could pair it with some skinny jeans. This layered look has been a favorite of mine for a while now. You can either half tuck the dress into the waistband of the jeans or simply let the jeans peak at the bottom and as you walk. The jeans automatically dresses the look down, making it more day appropriate. To match the colors in my dress I wore my white earrings (here is the DIY) and my red pointed booties.

The Wrap Dress: As A Coat

Another way to wear the wrap dress is to layer it over other pieces like a coat. Personally, I love thinner coats because they are perfect for layering. By leaving the dress untied you get the same effect. If you don’t want to risk getting stuck or tripping (or getting them dirty), you can tie the ribbons at the back. But if you, like me, feel like this ruins the look, you can tie large bows on each ribbon to shorten them a bit. I layered my dress over a pair of red culottes and a navy camisole. I also added a red waist belt, rhinestone necklace and earrings and for shoes I wore my red pumps.

Although it wasn’t the smartest, I couldn’t resist looking for more wrap dresses. Because I can’t get them all, maybe you can instead 😉 These are all from Asos:

These were only a fraction of the thousand wrap dresses Asos had, so I suggest you go and take a look, but I warn you; you will want to buy things…

The Spring/Summer Top: How To Start Wearing It Now

The Spring/Summer Top: How To Start Wearing It Now

The Flu

Before we get into it, you may have noticed my absence these last couple of weeks. I have been sick with the flu but now I’m officially back. After weeks of doing absolutely nothing related to the blog (I haven’t even felt like shopping… That’s when you know you’re sick) I am ready to get started again!

I had planned to make a third part of my trend report series. But because I’m waiting for a jacket to complete one of the looks, it will have to wait (but it is still coming though.)

The Spring/Summer Top Or Dress

After this long and partially very cold winter, I am ready for spring! My guess is that you are too, which is why I’m sharing a brilliant way to wear your spring/summer tops and dresses, right now. I am aware that this look isn’t for everyone, but either way I think it’s pretty darn smart.

So, let’s say you have this beautiful (sleeveless) dress or top and you really feel like wearing it right now. With the temperature where I live, it’s way to wear on its own. So you either have the option to wear a cardigan (which I rarely use) or a sweater on top which would cover up a lot of the dress. There is also the option to wear a long sleeve underneath, but what if you’re sick of these three options? I know I am. No worries, I’ve got you covered.

top

The Extra Cropped Top

The extra cropped top, which I’m not sure if it even has a name was something I began to see last year. What it is, is basically just a long sleeve, but, it ends above the chest area. It allows you to keep your arms warm (which is my biggest concern) while you can show off what you’re wearing underneath. This piece is so smart and on top of that, it’s the perfect DIY project, during which a cat assistant is required..

The extra cropped top is perfect over all your graphic t-shirts and camisoles. If you need extra warmth you can even layer it over another long sleeve top. So if you have a basic long sleeve lying around, this may be a great way to use it. Just be sure before you cut in it that you won’t regret it later. If you’re worried you might, you could look for a top on sale or second hand to cut into instead.

DIY Fridays: Veiled Beanies And Berets

DIY Fridays: Veiled Beanies And Berets

 The Veiled Beanie

A few years ago I saw a picture (on polyvore) of Lea Seydoux who was wearing a veiled beanie. It was from an article for Interview Russia published in 2012. After a little bit of research I found out that the beanie was from Jil Sander. Although it took a while for this trend to take off, the latest Dior shows have given it a little push. This trend is perfect to DIY, so naturally, I had to do it.

veiled

Although, I’m sure you can figure out yourself how to make a veiled beanie/beret, I’m simply showing you how I did it. Because you can do it in a few different ways, I would like to list those first.

  • Decide what length you want your veil to be, do you want it past your nose or even past your chin? It’s up to you, I chose to let it go just past the nose.
  • You can cover the whole beanie or beret in the veil (attaching it at the top) and let it hang down all the way around. Another option is to attach it about halfway or at the very edge of the hat.
  • You can either attach the veil to the inside of the hat or the outside.
  • Keep the edge of the veil straight or cut it into a more rounded shape.

How I Made My Veiled Beanie And Berets

To make my veiled beanie and berets, I used the following things:

  • Two Berets, one basic black and one white with pearls. One simple black beanie.
  • Net fabric (not sure if it has a better name..) I used a white net and a black net to match my hats.
  • Black and white thread.
  • Needles and pins.
  • Scissors

veiled

And here are the steps:

1.The first thing I did was to try out my beanie and my berets in order to figure out how wide I wanted my veils to be. I cut out a piece for each hat accordingly (I trimmed them to the right length later on.)

veiled

2. After that, I began to pin my veil to the hats and I did it differently on all three. On the black beret I attached the net on the inside and on the white I pinned it to the outside. The net for the beanie (which I cut a bit longer) I attached about a decimeter above the edge.

veiled

3. Once I was finished with the pinning, I began to sew by hand. You can do it with a machine if you prefer, but i didn’t take long at all to do it by hand.

veiled

That was it, so easy and so gorgeous! This is a perfect way to add some glamour during the winter months as well as to your everyday outfit. Don’t forget to share this post with the hat lovers out there!

The Pictures

In the pictures of today’s post I have paired my new veiled beanies and berets with my new jeans from & Other Stories. I’m also wearing my new pumps which happens to be from the same place. Finally, I chose a white T-shirt with a text print (in french) which has some glitter and sequins going on.
